WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The White House said on Wednesday it supported a five-month extension of transportation funding that is currently before the U.S. Congress to give lawmakers time to work out a longer-term plan.

"The administration expects that Congress will use this five-month extension to pass a multi-year bill with significant increases in investment," the White House said in a statement.
