Magnitude 6.1 earthquake hits China's western Xinjiang: USGS

SYDNEY (Reuters) - A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.1 hit China's western province of Xinjiang on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The shallow quake struck 160 km (100 miles) northwest of the city of Hotan at a depth of 10 km (6 miles), the USGS said. There were no immediate reports of casualties or damage.

It was initially reported as measuring 6.3.
