WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A Florida doctor charged with corruption alongside New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez has been released under a bond agreement.
U.S. Magistrate Judge James Hopkins approved an $18 million bond package for Dr. Salomon Melgen on Thursday, and he walked out of jail with his wife and daughter hours later.
Melgen has been held more than 11 weeks since his arrest in a sweeping Medicare fraud case. It is separate from the case he faces with Menendez in New Jersey.
The eye surgeon will await trial under home detention with electronic monitoring. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.
