WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. ambassador to the United Nations says if Iran cheats on a final nuclear deal, there will be procedures in place so Russia or China could not block U.N. sanctions from being snapped back into place.

Samantha Power told the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Tuesday that she couldn't go into detail about what kind of snap-back mechanism would be in place at the United Nations. But she said U.N. sanctions could be re-imposed on Iran if it substantially violates terms of a deal — even though Russia and China have veto power at the U.N.

U.S. and other international negotiators are trying to finalize an agreement by the end of the month that would ease sanctions on Iran if it refrains from developing a nuclear weapon.
