(Reuters) - Nebraska lawmakers on Wednesday repealed the state's death penalty law, voting by the narrowest of margins to override a veto by Republican Governor Pete Ricketts and join 18 other states that do not impose capital punishment.

The state's unicameral legislature voted 30-19 to abolish the death penalty, the exact number of votes needed to override the governor's veto, and to replace capital punishment with a term of life without parole.
