MAPUTO, Mozambique (AP) — Mozambique's president is hosting his South African counterpart on a state visit.

President Filipe Nyusi on Wednesday welcomed South African President Jacob Zuma in the Mozambican capital Maputo.

Nyusi's office said in statement that the two presidents are to discuss the recent wave of anti-immigrant attacks in South Africa. A Mozambican immigrant was one of seven people killed in that violence.

Mozambique's labor ministry said around 40,000 Mozambicans work in South Africa's mines.

The South African presidency said in a statement that neighboring Mozambique is the country's top trading partner in Africa.

The statement said Zuma was accompanied South Africa's ministers of energy, defense and environmental affairs.

Zuma and his delegation were met with musical performances and a 21-gun salute.
