PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Police say a small, amphibious tourist boat ran over a woman crossing the street in Philadelphia, killing her.
Police say a preliminary investigation indicates that the 68-year-old woman was walking against a traffic light with her husband when she was struck Friday evening in the Chinatown neighborhood. She got trapped beneath the Ride the Ducks trolley, which witnesses say was carrying about 20 people.
Police say the driver reportedly could not see the woman. Her name was not immediately released.
Emily Myers, general manager of Ride the Ducks, was on the scene but said she had no information yet from the police.
The duck boats are a popular way for tourists to see the sights of Philadelphia from both land and water.
In July 2010, a tug pilot talking on a cellphone steered a huge barge into a duck boat on the Delaware River, killing two Hungarian tourists.
