PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in Florida's Panhandle say a man has died after being shot by a police officer.
Panama City Police say officers responded early Saturday to a report of a man carrying "a long gun." Police tell The News Herald (http://bit.ly/1Dkq9tu ) that after the officers repeatedly ordered the man to put down his gun, "the suspect engaged officers and they returned fire."
Police say the man was shot and taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The suspect's name has not been released.
A message left by The Associated Press for a police spokesman was not immediately returned. The News Herald reports that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
