DETROIT (AP) — A prosecutor plans to announce Monday a decision on whether to file charges in the videotaped beating of a black motorist by a white police officer during a suburban Detroit traffic stop.
The office of Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy says Friday that no additional information about the case will be released until a news conference.
Officer William Melendez was fired and recently discussed the case with WXYZ-TV, which reports that the officer and his union are contesting the firing. His firing came after the January arrest of 57-year-old Floyd Dent in Inkster drew widespread protests.
Worthy also plans to announce a decision Monday on whether she'll file charges in the separate January beating of Andrew Jackson Jr. by Grosse Pointe Park and Highland Park officers.
