(Reuters) - A convicted murderer in Illinois was on the run on Wednesday after he overpowered a jail guard and took his keys and uniform, authorities said.

Kamron Taylor escaped the Jerome Combs Detention Center in Kankakee, about 60 miles south of Chicago, at about 3 a.m. and fled in the correctional officer's Brown 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, the Kankakee County Sheriff's Office said in a statement.

Taylor, who is considered armed and dangerous, was convicted of murder and was awaiting sentencing, according to the sheriff.
