WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is headlining the dedication of the Edward M. Kennedy Institute for the U.S. Senate, a facility that includes a full-size replica of the chamber where the late Massachusetts Democratic senator served for 47 years.

Vice President Joseph Biden also is attending Monday's ceremonies. He served in the Senate with Kennedy for more than 30 years.

The institute was built adjacent to the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library in Dorchester, Massachusetts, outside Boston.

Kennedy endorsed Obama at a key point during the 2008 campaign for the Democratic presidential nomination. After Kennedy died in 2009, Obama eulogized him as the soul of the Democratic Party and the lion of the U.S. Senate.

The institute's website says it is dedicated to educating the public about the Senate's role in government.
