ISTANBUL (Reuters) - The Turkish military fired artillery and mortar shells at Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militant positions in southeast Turkey on Wednesday in retaliation for mortar and machine gun fire, the general staff said in a statement on its website.

The clash, in the Daglica area of Hakkari province near the Iraqi border, was a rare violation of a two-year old ceasefire between the PKK and the state under a peace process between the two sides.
