VININGS, Ga. (AP) — Authorities in suburban Atlanta are investigating after police said a man drove a Maserati toward officers who then opened fire on the car, killing the suspect.
Smyrna police have said officers were trying to serve a warrant on the man Tuesday afternoon.
Cobb County police Sgt. Dana Pierce says three officers from that agency were there as backup but did not fire their weapons.
Smyrna police didn't immediately return messages from the AP on Wednesday.
On Tuesday, Smyrna police Officer Ed Cason told reporters the man drove the Maserati toward them and that the officers feared for their lives.
However, witnesses disputed that account.
Goodyear customer Brittany Eustache told WSB-TV that she saw the shooting unfold inside the store, just feet away. She says the car had hit a curb and stopped.
