LONDON (AP) — British broadcasters say that an agreement has been reached to stage a TV debate between seven party leaders ahead of May's national election.

Conservative Prime Minister David Cameron will face off with opposition leader Ed Miliband and other party leaders in a live TV debate on April 2.

The parties and broadcasters have wrangled for months over the format of the debates, and Cameron's rivals have accused him of "running scared" from a head-to-head contest with Miliband.

Broadcasters said Saturday Cameron and Labour's Miliband will be interviewed separately on TV and answer questions from a live studio audience — but will not debate with each other — on March 26.

Britons go to the polls on May 7 in what is expected to be the most unpredictable election in decades.
