PITTSBURGH (AP) — The mother and caregiver of a disabled, 58-pound Pittsburgh man have been charged after he was hospitalized for malnourishment and severe burns to a hand.
The state attorney general announced Thursday that the man's mother, 44-year-old Vonda Brown, is accused of submerging his hand in hot liquid in October.
Authorities say the 24-year-old victim is autistic and has cerebral palsy. He was screaming to be fed when he arrived at a hospital in McKees Rocks and ended up spending nearly two months there.
Brown is charged with aggravated assault and Medicaid fraud.
The man's full-time caregiver, 45-year-old Armando Navarro, is charged with Medicaid fraud. Prosecutors say Navarro and Brown are a couple.
Online court records didn't list attorneys for either defendant.
