BALTIMORE (AP) — A man pardoned by President Bill Clinton for leaking spy satellite photos to a British magazine has pleaded guilty to stealing boxes of government records related to his grandfather, a World War II naval historian.
Samuel Loring Morison of Crofton, Maryland, entered the plea Thursday in federal court in Baltimore. The 70-year-old was sentenced to two years of probation.
Morison's grandfather, the late Rear Adm. Samuel Eliot Morison, wrote a seminal history of World War II naval operations and was a two-time recipient of the Pulitzer Prize. He died in 1976.
The younger Morison was arrested in 2014 and charged with stealing the records from the Naval History and Heritage Command in Washington. A prosecutor said Thursday that the records were worth $10,000 to $30,000.
