WASHINGTON (AP) — Democratic congressman Steve Cohen says he is skipping Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's speech to Congress.
The Tennessee congressman calls the speech "high theater" in Netanyahu's re-election campaign and a political tool wielded by House Speaker John Boehner to create a breach between Democrats and Israel.
Netanyahu is set to address a joint session of Congress next Tuesday about the threat Israel sees from Iran's nuclear program. Boehner invited the Israeli prime minister without first notifying President Barack Obama. The two heads of state are at odds over limiting Iran's nuclear capability.
