TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Former Arizona Congressman Rick Renzi is getting more time before he has to begin serving his three-year prison sentence in a corruption case.
A federal judge in Tucson had ordered Renzi to surrender Friday, but the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals issued a brief order allowing him to remain free while it considers Renzi's motion for bail pending an appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court.
The 9th Circuit has already upheld Renzi's convictions and sentence.
Renzi was convicted of conspiring to use his 1st Congressional District seat to make two companies buy land owned by his former business associate so that the associate could repay a debt he owed to Renzi.
