LONDON (AP) — The head of Britain's Police Federation says all front-line officers need to be equipped with stun guns because of the rising terror threat.

Chairman Steve White told British news outlets Saturday that terrorists have turned to long-wolf style tactics that can bring terrorism to virtually any town or city.

He cited the 2013 murder of soldier Lee Rigby in by two al-Qaida inspired extremists using a meat cleaver and knives as an example of the risk.

White says the threat level against police has been raised two levels recently, leaving many in the largely unarmed police force vulnerable.

A limited number of police are already equipped with stun guns.

The national threat level is "severe," indicating that police and intelligence officials believe an attack is highly likely.
