NEW YORK (AP) — Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo has unveiled plans to fulfill a long-held dream for New York City travelers: a rail link to LaGuardia Airport, one of the busiest airports in the nation.
Cuomo spoke Tuesday to the business group Association for a Better New York in Manhattan. He offered a preview of his annual State of the State address scheduled for Wednesday.
Currently, there is no way to reach the airport by train. Cuomo proposed building an AirTrain link like the one that serves John F. Kennedy Airport.
Cuomo aides said the project would cost about $450 million to build and should be completed within five years. A start date for construction has not been set.
The Legislature must sign off on the project.
