PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) - The NCAA said on Friday it will restore wins stripped from Penn State football coach Joe Paterno after the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse scandal to settle a lawsuit filed by Pennsylvania state officials.

The athletic governing body had voided Penn State's football victories for 14 seasons as part of a package of sanctions to punish the school for failing to stop the abuse by assistant football coach Sandusky. Reinstating the wins restores the late Paterno's record as the winningest head coach in big-time U.S. college football history.
