KANSAS CITY, Kan. (Reuters) - Three people were hurt when a rail car exploded in rural Kansas on Thursday afternoon, emergency officials said.
Two of the people had burn injuries and were transferred to the University of Kansas Medical Center after the explosion and fire at the GBW Railcar Services site west of Atchison, Kansas, said an official for Atchison County Emergency Management, who did not wish to be identified.
Rail cars, including tankers, are serviced at the site, which is located about 45 miles northwest of Kansas City, officials said.
The Kansas Fire Marshal tweeted that an investigator was heading to the scene.
A representative for GBW was not immediately available for comment.
