PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A prominent Oregon Democratic fundraiser and gay rights activist has been accused in a grand jury indictment of abusing a 15-year-old boy in a Eugene hotel in 2013.
The Oregonian (http://bit.ly/1r5VkDX ) reports the indictment was handed up Wednesday alleging sodomy and sex abuse, and 66-year-old Terry Bean of Portland was released on bail that day. A former boyfriend of Bean's faces the same charges.
Bean's lawyer, Kristen Winemiller, said in a statement that Bean cooperated with the investigation and that several men had made him the "victim of an extortion ring."
Bean has helped to found two major national political groups, the Human Rights Campaign and the Gay and Lesbian Victory Fund, and he has been a major contributor for several Democratic presidential candidates.
