The Pennsylvania Supreme Court is suspending one of its members over his participation in a state government pornographic emails scandal that involved employees of the attorney general's office.

The court justices issued an order late Monday saying Justice Seamus McCaffery can't perform any judicial or administrative duties while the matter is reviewed by the Judicial Conduct Board.

The action follows disclosures by Chief Justice Ron Castille last week that McCaffery sent or received 234 emails with sexually explicit content or pornography.

McCaffery has apologized, calling it a lapse in judgment. He said "coarse language and crude jokes" were part of his life as a Philadelphia policeman and a Marine. But he criticized Castille.

Messages seeking comment from McCaffery and his lawyer haven't been returned.
