(Reuters) - Tropical storm Gonzalo is strengthening and is forecast to become a hurricane on Monday night or Tuesday while it moves through the Leeward Islands, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said in its latest advisory.
The storm, with sustained winds of 60 miles (95 km) per hour, was located about 20 miles (35 km) east southeast of Antigua and 50 miles (75 km) north of Guadeloupe. It was moving toward the west at nearly 10 miles (17 km) per hour.
The center of Gonzalo will move across the Leeward Islands during the day on Monday and near or over the Virgin Islands that night, the Miami-based weather forecaster said.
