BEIJING (Reuters) - A Chinese court on Tuesday sentenced an ethnic Uighur scholar to life imprisonment on separatism charges, his lawyer said, in a case that has raised international concern about human rights.

The economics professor, Ilham Tohti, China's most prominent advocate for the rights of Muslim Uighur people, stood trial in the western region of Xinjiang last week.
