HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Connecticut state officials say a troubled transgender girl has been located by police several hours after she escaped from a treatment program.
The confinement of the teenager attracted national attention this spring when she was imprisoned in April without criminal charges. She was 16 at the time.
Officials said she was too violent to remain in the custody of the Department of Children and Families. She has been held most recently at a facility for delinquent boys.
The agency says the teenager was found Tuesday afternoon by Hartford police and is not injured. It says she escaped earlier Tuesday while attending her first day at a therapeutic program.
