(Reuters) - A broad area of low pressure centered about 750 miles (1,200 km) west of the Cape Verde Islands has a 70 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone during the next 48 hours, the U.S. National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Thursday.

A tropical depression could form later today while the low moves toward the west-northwest and northwest over the Atlantic, the NHC said.

Another weak low pressure area near the northwestern Bahamas has a 20 percent chance of becoming a tropical cyclone in the next 48 hours, the Miami-based weather forecasters said.
