HOUSTON (Reuters) - An 8-year-old Texas boy was in intensive care on Friday after being shot in the face a day earlier by his 7-year-old cousin when the two were handling a loaded pistol, police and media reports said.
Police in Texas City, about 40 miles southeast of Houston, said the children were left unsupervized in an apartment. There were also a 3-year-old and 9-year-old in the room.
The victim was taken to a Houston-area hospital by helicopter. Texas City Police Captain Joe Stanton told Houston's ABC 13 News on Friday the victim, who was a cousin of the suspected shooter, was out of surgery and in intensive care.
The adult responsible for supervising the children is under investigation, police said. None of the children are old enough to face charges.
