NEW YORK (Reuters) - The New York Rangers led the Los Angeles Kings 1-0 after the first period of Game Four of the Stanley Cup Finals at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.
The Rangers, facing elimination, opened the scoring seven minutes into the game when Benoit Pouliot deflected John Moore's point shot past goalie Jonathan Quick two seconds after a Kings penalty expired.
Los Angeles missed a golden chance to equalize when an Alec Martinez shot got behind goalie Henrik Lundqvist and trickled along the goal line. Kings center Jeff Carter failed to get his stick on the puck and Rangers defenseman Anton Stralman swooped in to knock it off the line and save a goal.
The Kings, one win away from winning their second Stanley Cup in three years, lead the best-of-seven series 3-0.
