LONDON (Reuters) - Metro Bank founder Anthony Thomson on Wednesday unveiled plans to launch a new online British bank offering a full range of services to personal and business customers, hoping to rival the country's established lenders.
Thomson said he will lead the new venture alongside Mark Mullen, chief executive of First Direct, the online bank run by HSBC. He expects the new bank, which will have no branches, to open for business in 2015.
"Designed entirely for the digital age and with none of the legacy issues of the past, Atom will be the UK's first real alternative to the established banks," Thomson said in a statement.
