MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) — The FBI says one of its "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" is back in New York state to face murder charges in the deaths of his 19-year-old girlfriend and her toddler son.
An FBI news release Friday said Juan Elias Garcia voluntarily returned to the United States to face charges. But Nicaraguan police said Thursday the alleged MS-13 gang member was arrested near the U.S. Embassy in Managua. He was immediately turned over to the FBI.
Prosecutors say Garcia lured Vanessa Argueta and her 2-year-old son to the woods of Central Islip (EYE'-slihp), N.Y. in February 2010 where two other gang members shot them to death.
Garcia is expected in U.S. District Court in Central Islip on Monday. It was not immediately known if he has an attorney.
