PHOENIX (Reuters) - Former NFL player Darren Sharper, facing rape accusations in several U.S. states that involve allegations of drugging women, was indicted in Arizona on sexual assault charges, Tempe police said in a statement on Wednesday.

Sharper, who played 14 years in the National Football League and helped the New Orleans Saints to a 2010 Super Bowl title, is in custody in California, where he is accused of drugging four women in Los Angeles and raping two of them. He faces similar accusations in Louisiana and has been the subject of sex crimes probes in Florida and Nevada.
