WASHINGTON (AP) — District of Columbia police officials have been facing questions about headline-making arrests of their own officers.

Just last month, one officer was charged with taking semi-nude pictures of a 15-year-old runaway. Another was accused of running a prostitution operation involving teenage girls and a third was indicted on charges that he tried to kill his wife.

Police say the bad behavior doesn't reflect the entire department, which includes about 4,500 officers and civilian employees. Still, more than 100 officers have been arrested in the last five years. Many were for traffic offenses or involved cases that ended in acquittal. But the charges have also included murder and money laundering.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier says much of the bad conduct has occurred off-duty. She met with residents this month to address concerns. A D.C. Council hearing is scheduled Friday.
