HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — A federal judge has set a June 9 trial date for a lawsuit challenging Pennsylvania's gay-marriage ban.

U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III on Friday set a timetable for the filing of pre-trial motions and other paperwork before the trial is held at the federal courthouse in Harrisburg.

Jones issued the order following a meeting with lawyers in the case. He rejected a defense request to delay the trial until August.

The federal lawsuit is the first of at least six state and federal court suits challenging aspects of the 17-year-old Pennsylvania law. Civil rights lawyers filed it in July on behalf of plaintiffs who include a widow, 11 couples and one couple's two teenage daughters.
