MAKHACHKALA, Russia (AP) — A suicide car bomber has attacked a police station in Russia's violent republic of Dagestan, killing two police officers and injuring more than two dozen other people.
Police spokeswoman Fatina Ubaidatova says the blast happened Monday morning in the town of Khuchin. As well as the two dead officers, the explosion injured six policemen and about 20 other people, she said.
Dagestan sees frequent attacks on police, attributed to Islamic separatist militants. The insurgency stems from the 1990s, an offshoot of the separatist wars in neighboring Chechnya.
Three police officers were killed in a suicide bombing of a police station in Chechnya on Sept. 16.
