SAN DIEGO (AP) — Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer is directly confronting San Diego Mayor Bob Filner to urge him to resign, telling the former congressman the sexual harassment allegations against him have "shaken me to the core."
Boxer made the comments Friday in a searing letter to Filner in which she tells him to step down immediately because he has betrayed the women involved, the residents of San Diego and the people he has worked with in his decades of public life.
Numerous local, state and federal elected officials have called for the mayor to resign.
Filner so far has refused and instead is undergoing two weeks of intensive behavioral therapy after acknowledging he has disrespected and intimidated women.
More than a dozen women have publicly accused Filner of sexual harassment.
