Bing to reveal re-election plans Tuesday

DETROIT (AP) — Dave Bing is scheduled to make an announcement on his political future as the deadline to file for a second 4-year term as Detroit's mayor fast approaches.

Bing spokesman Bob Warfield said in an email Monday night that Bing would "make a major announcement about his political future" at noon Tuesday at the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History.

The filing deadline is 4 p.m. Tuesday.

The 69-year-old professional basketball Hall-of-Famer and ex-steel supply company owner was elected mayor in 2009. He inherited a budget deficit of more than $300 million.

In March, Detroit became the largest city in the country to fall under state oversight when Gov. Rick Snyder appointed bankruptcy attorney Kevyn Orr as emergency manager. Orr has final say on all city financial matters.
