MEXICO CITY (AP) — Authorities in Mexico say a state legislator who died of stab wounds was killed by his wife during a domestic dispute.
Prosecutor Miguel Angel Contreras says blood stains were found on the floors of the house of Mexico State assemblyman Jaime Serrano Cedillo.
Contreras said Friday that Cedillo had been physically fighting with his wife throughout the day at their home on the outskirts of Mexico City. The prosecutor says investigators found evidence the couple had "a series of deep" marital problems.
Serrano Cedillo's death Sunday had caused concern because it came just two days after another legislator also from the Institutional Revolutionary Party was slain outside his house in northern Sonora state.
Mexican mayors and police officials have frequently been targeted by drug gangs, but not legislators.
