AFTER THE SPEECH

His speech is over, and Mitt Romney's large family, joined by running mate Paul Ryan's, is flooding the stage at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. Balloons and confetti are swirling around them as "fireworks" go off on huge screens behind them.

This festival of family imagery is the culmination of three days of careful choreography designed to show the American public that Romney is the superior choice for president after four years of what the GOP passionately calls the failed administration of Barack Obama. A band is playing the James Brown standard "Living in America" as the candidates' relatives dance.
