Int'l Court: No probe on Rwanda-Congo arms issue

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — An official of the International Criminal Court says the court is not investigating Rwanda's alleged support of a rebel group committing atrocities in the Congo.

Phakiso Mochochoko, head of the Jurisdiction, Complementarity and Cooperation Division at the ICC, said Thursday that the court's focus is on the arrest of rebel leader Bosco Ntaganda.

Rwanda has denied reports by the United Nations and rights groups that it is supporting Ntaganda's M23 rebel movement in East Congo, which has sparked new fighting in the area that has forced more than 200,000 civilians from their homes since April.

The U.S. government said has said it has cut this year's planned military assistance to Rwanda amid concerns that the government in Kigali is supporting rebel movement.
