FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — The owner of a topless club accused in a failed plot to kill a North Texas mayor and city attorney faces trial this fall.
Ryan Walker Grant of Kennedale was arraigned Wednesday and pleaded not guilty to federal counts of murder for hire and unlawfully transferring a firearm. He was indicted last week.
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram (http://bit.ly/NUVhYu ) reports a judge in Fort Worth has set a Sept. 24 trial date.
Prosecutors allege Grant plotted the attack because the city closed his nightclub, Flashdancer. Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck and a Dallas attorney representing the city, Tom Brandt, were not hurt.
Grant has been jailed since his April 9 arrest in the undercover investigation.
Arlington is midway between Dallas and Fort Worth.
