NY Rep. Slaughter leaves hospital month after fall

U.S. Rep. Louise Slaughter has been released from an upstate New York hospital where she's spent most of the past month recuperating from a broken leg suffered in a fall.

Slaughter says Friday that she'll continue undergoing physical therapy before returning to Washington. She says she's been working during her rehabilitation, giving remarks via video and introducing trade legislation.

The 82-year-old lawmaker broke her left femur when she tripped on uneven pavement and fell while crossing a midtown Manhattan street April 2.

Slaughter had surgery at a Manhattan hospital before being transferred to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

The Democrat was elected to Congress in 1986. She's preparing for her re-election campaign in the newly redrawn 25th Congressional District.

Her Republican challenger is Monroe County Executive Maggie Brooks.
