Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will lead a U.S. delegation next week to the second inauguration of Africa's first woman president.
Clinton will attend Liberian President Ellen Sirleaf Johnson's inauguration Monday. Johnson won re-election in November, shortly after sharing the Nobel Peace Prize with two other women.
Clinton will travel Tuesday to nearby Ivory Coast and Togo for meetings with both countries' presidents, stopping in Cape Verde for talks with the island nation's prime minister before returning to Washington.
State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland says the trip shows American commitment to post-conflict peace, good governance and economic development.
It is the first-ever trip by a U.S. secretary of state to Togo.
