The following recall has been announced:



DETAILS: Starwest Organic Celery Seed (Whole) sold online, by mail order or directly to customers by Starwest Botanicals of Rancho Cordova, Calif. The product is packaged in 1-pound (lot number 40203) and 2-ounce (lot number F7073) Mylar pouches.

WHY: It has the potential to be contaminated with salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

INCIDENTS: Starwest Botanicals became aware of the potential contamination after being notified by a customer. No illnesses have been reported.
