A southeastern Kentucky lawmaker who was severely injured earlier this year is resigning his state House seat.
Republican Rep. Dewayne Bunch is a public school teacher. He suffered a head injury while breaking up a fight at a high school in April.
House Republican Leader Jeff Hoover said in a statement Wednesday that the 49-year-old freshman lawmaker's family had decided that it was best for Bunch and his constituents to resign.
Bunch of Williamsburg was hospitalized for a month and then transferred to a center in Atlanta for long-term care. Two teenage boys face charges in the fight.
Regina Bunch says her husband is continuing to recover and hopes to be back in Kentucky soon.
