(Reuters) - Nebraska's Governor Dave Heineman will call a special session of the state's legislature over TransCanada Corp's proposed pipeline that would cross ecologically sensitive areas in his state, an aide said.

Heineman does not oppose the pipeline outright, but wants TransCanada to change the route away from the Sand Hills region which sits atop one of the country's largest aquifers. If the state succeeds in changing the route, it could add delays for the pipeline.
