Obama calls Saudi ambassador targeted in plot

President Barack Obama has told Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Washington, Adel al-Jubeir (AD'-duhl ahl-joo-BEHR'), that a foiled plot to assassinate him is a "flagrant" violation of U.S. and international law. The president expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia in a phone call and said he is committed to ensuring the security of diplomats in the United States.

White House press secretary Jay Carney disclosed the call in a statement.

The Justice Department accused elements of the Iranian government of being involved in the conspiracy. Two people, including a member of Iran's special operations unit known as the Quds Force, were charged in New York federal court.

The White House said the president also met with his national security team in the morning to thank them for disrupting the plot.
