Senate votes to approve patent bill

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The Senate approved a bill to reform the patent system on Thursday in hopes of stemming a plague of patent litigation and helping the U.S. patent office clear a years long backlog of applications.

The same bill previously passed the House of Representatives.

The bill was approved by a vote of 89 to 9.
