Pro-Obama group launches 5 state ad campaign

A fundraising group supporting President Barack Obama's re-election bid is airing ads accusing Republicans of blocking progress on the economy.

Priorities USA, founded by two former top Obama aides, announced Wednesday it would run the ads on cable television for two weeks in Colorado, Florida, Iowa, North Carolina and Virginia. A spokesman said the group would spend about $750,000 to run the ads.

The ads accuse the GOP of thwarting Obama's efforts to improve the economy and criticize a budget plan passed by House Republicans that would cut billions from Medicare.

The ads are an effort to mute the impact of a multi-state ad campaign by the Republican-leaning Crossroads GPS attacking Obama on the economy. Crossroads said it would spend $20 million on the campaign over two months.
